Social Dance, the second album from harpist Juliana Beckel, explores music rooted in one of our oldest forms of human connection: dance.

Featuring works by Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Salzedo, Deborah Henson-Conant, Marcel Tournier, and Jean-Michel Damase, the album moves across a wide range of musical traditions and styles. These pieces trace dances that began in communities, celebrations, and social spaces before finding their way into the concert hall, carrying with them the rhythms and influences of the cultures that shaped them.

Inspired in part by Beckel’s childhood memories of watching her grandparents dance the polka, Social Dance is ultimately an album about connection—between people, across cultures, and through generations—and about the enduring idea that this music was always meant to be shared.
